Question(s): What is call and response?

History: Call and response comes along way today. Back in the late 1950s and 60s people use to make song that were one hits or the ones people will remember forever. It is a succession of two distinct phrases usually played by different musicians.The second phrase (the song that is made years later) is heard as a direct commentary on or response to the first. This corresponds to the call and response pattern in human communication and is found as a basic element of musical form, such as verse-chorus form, in many traditions.
Call is the song ‘’Silly’’ by Deniece Williams the response is "Everything to Me" by Monica Denise Arnold These two songs classified genre was R&B and Soul.
R&B is a genre of popular music known mostly by its African American listeners. R&B is actually what was later developed into what we know as rock and roll. In the 1970s, the term R&B was being used to describe soul and funk music styles. The name for them today is Rhythm and Blues. R&B was also influences from gospel and disco music. Disco's downturn in the 1980s opened the door for R&B to truly take-off in popularity. Both of these artists love rhythm and blues and try to express themselves the best way they can in using the music.

Deniece Williams was born June 3, 1950. She was a famous singer, songwriter and record producer who achieved success in the 1970s and 1980s. Soul and Funk was a big influenced on some of the music she made in her time. In 1980 she mad the song ‘’Silly’’. That song was the call a young artist today needed.

She is professionally known as Monica, is an American R&B singer and entertainer, who has sold over nine million albums in the United States and over 18 million worldwide. She loved music all her life. January 19, 2010 concluded the season where she out her last most recent album with the song "Everything to Me" which was the call to ‘’Silly’’ in 1980.

Call and Response can have different forms from slightly changing the beat, rhythm or lyrics of the song. It can exist in a song because one song can have a certain turn or beat. The next song that is made is known as the response, which can consist of a similar beat or rhythm. I can also keep the same base and change everything else about the song. There are a variety of things that can be done to two songs to make them a call and response.
